Schooner 'EROS' is a classic beauty built in England in 1939 for the daughter and son-in-law of a British Lord. She was very soon after commandeered by the Royal Navy to participate in the famous evacuation at Dunkirk. After the war she became the private yacht of the first man internationally known as a billionaire, Stavros Niarchos, and she became well known in the Mediterranean yachting community. Her present owners acquired her in 1992 and have just completed a museum quality restoration, no expenses spared!
'EROS' comfortably accomodates up to eight guests in four double cabins. The usual toys are aboard for amusing oneself when at anchor: small boats suitable for sailing, paddling or skiing, snorkeling gear and dive boat, plasma TV, piano, hammocks - the list goes on!
When money is no object, the EROS crew can arrange for you to have the ultimate toy aboard - one of Graham Hawke's deep flight submersibles along with a qualified instructor.
The professional crew of five includes a very experienced Captain and gourmet chef. Guests can swing in a hammock sipping a tropical drink, swim to the beach, or gather around the helm for another of Bill's remarkable sea stories. You are also welcome to take the helm and help hoist the sails if you wish.

EROS Crew Profile

Captain Grace Bodle
Having sailed across the Atlantic, West Pacific, and Mediterranean, Captain Grace is not only a US Coast Guard Certified 500 ton Master and 200 ton Master of Sail, but also a Paris-trained Cordon Blue Cook. Grace has crossed the Atlantic Ocean many times as well as crossed the Pacific. She has eighteen years' charter experience in the Caribbean and Mediterranean. Grace also holds STCW-95 certification.
Grace's organization skills and talented management are critical to the great success of her luxury charter operation aboard Eros. Grace is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, Department of Anthropology.
Sailing Master, William Bodle
Captain Bill, as he is affectionately known by his loyal crew, is not only one of the charter fleet's most experienced and well known sailors, he is also a builder of classic yachts of considerable repute. He is credited with restoring the schooners Nordlys, Grace, Panda and now Eros, all classic schooners. He and Grace owned and operated Stone Boat Yard for fourteen years in Alameda Ca. and they now own and operates The Sugar Dock Boat Yard/Marina in Point Richmond California. Typical of Bill and Grace's acumen, Eros has twice won the People's Choice Award at the Master Mariners San Francisco Annual Classic Boat Show where Eros was chosen the most beautifully restored vessel in the show. In simple terms, Bill's credentials as a yachtsman are matched only by Grace's skill as company manager.
Bill has sailed extensively and is well known in Caribbean, Mediterranean, South Pacific and US West Coast waters. He and Grace have circumnavigated the world under sail, visiting fifty-two countries and entertaining heads of state along the way. They have also sailed across the Atlantic fifteen times. Bill and Grace are well known in professional charter yacht circles. The Bodles' work has been featured in magazines such as Fortune, Show Boats, Yachting, Latitude 38, Wooden Boats, and various newspaper articles, and they count among friends many well known media and corporate personalities.
Bill's philosophy is quite simple. Every aspect of sailing aboard a classic vessel of a quality such as Eros, should be made memorable for every person aboard, guests and crew alike. His knowledge of sailing and history are generously shared at cocktail hour and Guests and Crew often form lasting friendships aboard one of Bill's museum quality yachts. Few such opportunities exist, and there are fewer such Sailing Masters.
Dr.Bill Bodle is a graduate of University of California at Berkeley and the University of California Medical Center in San Francisco - by the way, if you need dental work – see your local dentist before you come aboard.
First Mate, Kirk Wallis
Designer of boats and builder of buildings, Kirk Wallis is an avid sailor and motor-yacht owner, residing at water's edge in Point Richmond, California. Having grown up in San Francisco, he was his high school class Valedictorian, and offers a considered discussion on a broad range of topics.
Kirk is a highly skilled yacht engineer having custom designed and installed various propulsion, communication, navigation and electrical systems for high-end yachts including Eros.
In addition to substantial technical skills and practical knowledge of on-
board systems, Kirk is an accomplished sailor. He has an extensive history of racing and blue water sailing on the sometimes dangerous California and Mexican west coast, as well as the Caribbean.
Kirk can always be counted on to problem solve, and to befriend everyone he meets with his confident and easy-going manner.
Kirk Wallis, P.E. is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, School of Engineering.
Chef, Patrick Delaney
Patrick was born and raised in Point Richmond California a community of sea farers. There was never any question but that he would find himself in the galley aboard a fine sailing ship such as Eros. He is the scion of a sea-faring family, and is never to be seen without a smile and a laugh as he creates culinary delights for guests and crew to enjoy aboard Eros.
Patrick's Irish ancestry notwithstanding, he is fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese, and a Diplomate of the celebrated Instituto Argentino de Gastronomia in Buenos Aires having studied under the great Chef Ariel Palasio. Patrick contributes to the pleasure of Eros’ guests with his considerable skill in creating memorable meals. Using local produce and fresh-caught fish, the dishes he creates are equal to many of the finest San Francisco restaurants where he apprenticed.
Engineer, Jordan A. Ashley
Born and raised in Palma de Mallorca, Jordan is fluent in Spanish, English, French, and Catalan with intermediate ability in Italian and some Portuguese. At 26 years now, he has already had considerable experience aboard sailing yachts, including a passage across the Atlantic from Palma to Antigua. Jordan has recently joined EROS as a valued member of our team.
After completing his Baccalaureate he furthered his studies with a three year Maritime Navigation Course at UPC University (Barcelona) and Ship Safety & Security Officer Training. He worked as Assistant Engineer to an International Naval Engineering Company under the direction of Martin Koch, a renowned expert in the field. He holds the RYA Yacht Master Offshore Certification as well as GMDSS and STCW-95 Certifications.
Other interests and abilities include wakeboarding, kite surfing, kayaking and scuba diving. In 2007 he cofounded a wakeboarding club and school in Palma. Later on he served as the Personal Water Sport instructor aboard a private, 215 ft. motor yacht. He is a very good teacher and enjoys helping people learn these sports. Hobbies include dinghy sailing, hiking, and skiing among others
