ICARUS Crew Profile

Captain Barry J. Duck
Barry was born in England and has 6 years of charter experience including 3.5 years as Captain on the SY CAPERCAILLIE, Swan 77, and the previous 18 months as Mate aboard the same vessel.
Barry has a university degree in aquaculture and fishery science. He is an RYA sailing instructor, and is also accomplished at windsurfing, snorkeling and other water sports.
At one time Barry was a children’s water sports instructor, and welcomes children onboard his charters. Barry always has all the water toys ready to go and keeps the yacht in Bristol fashion.
Chef Sophie L. Bardon
Sophie has been cooking most of her life. From a young age she helped her aunt who arranged private functions, from cocktail parties to weddings for over 200 people. She continued to work in this area, including a few small restaurants, until she decided to go to sea.
She attended a Rosie Davies cooking course in the south of England. She also completed a 2 week Thai gourmet course, as well as some classes in fruit carving.
Sophie has been sailing since she was very young on small boats and Hoby Cats. She worked for one year as stewardess aboard SY Capercaillie, then spent the next three years as chef aboard the same vessel. She has completed several crossings on other sailing vessels, one a three-masted schooner, and gained a lot of knowledge of cooking at sea.
Having grown up in Mallorca, Sophie’s specialties are mainly Mediterranean in style. She has also worked for Italian owners thereby perfecting her Italian cuisine. Thai is a specialty that she loves to create, with its wonderful varying flavors. Desserts are a special love, as she enjoys the time and patience they take and has a developed a great flare in presentation.
When you sail aboard ICARUS, your appetite will be satisfied by a variety of delicious food, prepared by an experienced, imaginative chef.
Mate Oliver Ellwood:
Oliver moved from England to Mallorca at the age of 13 and is fluent in Spanish. His keen interest in engineering and water sports, actually water sports and engineering, made working on yachts a natural fit. Oliver joined Icarus in Antigua for the 2009.season and is an enthusiastic, hard-working addition to the crew.. An avid wake boarder and sailing instructor, he is very keen to organize water sports for adults and children and always happy to take guests on snorkeling trips and beach excursions with the tender. Oliver enjoys extreme sports and has worked as a rock climbing instructor.

ICARUS Testimonials
"We had a really excellent holiday, Barry is very flexible, eager to please and attentive so were Sophie and the mate. Sophie is a first class chef who delighted 6 discerning palates. We were all very happy with the crew as well as with the yacht.
All in all we could not have been better pleased and should like to thank you for your help in the rather marathon like procedure which preceded our departure".
